My Renault Clio 2000 clunking noise at the front when moving off?

My 2000 W reg clio is making a clunking noise as I move off - almost sounds as though something is loose but it only happens as I move off and change from 1st to second. Anyone any ideas what it could be please?

how to replace exhaust mounts on a clio

dean, January 2010
if its not the cv joint or full drive shaft i no this sounds silly but it could be your exhaust mount (u may need new rubbers). as my renault clio x reg did the same thing and it was my exhaust mounts and my car as been as rite as rain since.

Could also be a loose suspension mount point. If you notice it doing it when braking hard as well at low speeds the suspension would be quite likely

Probably the end of a driveshaft (the CV joint) starting to wear....if it clunks when you go round a tight corner, its definitely that.
