Our Zanussi TDS 383W is not is working at its maximum heat?

Our Zanussi TDS 383W is not is working at its maximum heat. It is producing heat but when it is on high it is only giving off as much heat as when it is on low. I have checked that the cool tumble buttons are not pressed!!!

I'm not the only one who has problems with this dryer eating garments!

It might not be worth mending. Our TDS 383W is about 5 years old and it has for some years 'eaten' clothes because ends of clothes can get stuck between the drum and the top lip of the loading hole. This causes shirt collars to get trapped and blackened, and corners of garments to be similarly marked. The problem is getting worse.
