the ignition on my gas hob has stopped operating - what could be the cause?

If all ignitions have stopped it might need a new battery, if one or two, then the leads to the electrodes must be checked for continuity,

sounds like you ignation coil (spark genrator) has got extrmley very hot and possibaly melted under the top cover plate of hob, you may have to replace it.
