part identification and placement?

A small part fell out of our Rowenta professioanal iron, while I had the iron disassembled, I don't know where it goes. It is shaped like the tip of a bullet with a spring out the back, maybe some sort of thermostat? It is very small, about like the tip of a pencil lead....would like some advise on where it fits.
thanks

the part that looks like an ink pen tip with spring goes under the control knob makes the clicking noise when you turn it keeps it in the setting you set it at some may call it a detent take 2 small flat screw drivers an lift up easy on each side of the knob or butter knives you will see a very small hole under the knob put pin in hole spring first then push knob back down hope this helps
