what is causing little bits of balck material in our washing machine?

We have a SIMPSON EZISET 950 washing and we have been finding little black bits with the wash and in the bottom of the washbowl, which we have no idea where it is coming from or what is causing it...
While this washing machine does a good job we are very surprised and disappointed that the agitator is not removable like the older Simpson models.

Any idea what black material could be caused by?

Quite possibly old dried on soap scum which attaches itself to the outer drum. Especially if you only use cold water washes & also use softener. Pays to do a hot wash without washing and add some descaler to the water. Same thing that is used in dishwashers to remove the grease. This will help flush it out.
