noisy washer?

Hotpoint WF000 4 years old started to be very noisy during spin cycles. No banging just MUCH louder than usual. Turning the drum by hand I can hear grating sound. Is it the bearings. Is it too expensive to fix or should I just get a new one?

99% chance of a bearing issue then...presumably there is nothing metallic stuck between the inner and outer drums....thats about all else that it could be.

thanks John - when I lift the drum up and rotate it turns freely but otherwise I can hear and feel grinding

It sounds like a typical bearing problem - try reaching in and grabbing the drum - if you can lift it up and feel some play, this is another bearing test. As for a repair - well that has to be up to you but I would expect to get more than 4 years out of a washer.
