Can I put a room thermostat on an old Elite 50 boiler!?

I have an old elite 50 boiler which does not have a room thermostat. This means that when the boiler is on the radiators get hot then just shut down after about 25 mnutes. I have to turning the radiator values up to get them to come back on. Also I have a lever on the hot water tank upstairs which determins whether I want hot water/heating or both. very old fashioned, but not sure if this is why I don't have a thermostat. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as it is starting to get a bit annoying now we are heading towards winter.

If your boiler is the Servowarm Elite HE 50 it was made between 1993 and 2000 so will be between 9 and 16 years old. This boiler has quite good 85% efficiency.

Not having a room stat will be both inconvenient and unnecessarily expensive for you in fuel bills. Have one fitted.

Engage the services of an independent boiler engineer to do the work - avoid the larger organisations who will charge you considerably more - have the boiler serviced when the work is being done and consider having TRV valves fitted to your radiators too at about £50 per radiator.

Good luck...
