What could be the problem? ?

My Whirlpool Tumble dryer: the hose went and as it did a smell erupted and the back was very hot. I repaced the hose bu the lights did not come on to show there was power. Checked the plug, fuse. Still no joy. Can I take the back off? What could be the problem?

If it was the vent hose that failed, was the smell that came out one of burning? Its likely that the element / pcb inside is kaput if it was.
