the speedo is not working , i have had a new censer fitted on the advice that 9/10 would fix the problem by peugeot i have been told that they need to take the gearbox off to solve the problem at a cost of £750p is there anything else that it could need instead of this expensive fix

Are you sure the speedo hand has not simply come loose on its spindle? Fairly common on 206s.
