Slowing a Singer 591?

I bought a Singer 591 industrial sewing machine, this has a stage 1 Jang Sun clutch motor fitted, model no CS-4002, I'm a complete newbie to sewing and it was purchased so I can make up new carpets and leather work for an old Porsche I'm restoring, in short the thing is far too fast for me and there is no adjustment on the motor to slow it down, it seems only to go fast, any suggestions on how to slow it down?

Also, you can loosen the rods going from the pedal to the motor lever and put them at an angle (like a Z) to reduce your initial pedal motion. This will let you ease into the clutch action much finer.

Additionally, you can put a smaller pulley on the motor; try a 2.25 inch outer diameter pulley on it.

Hello Alan,
On the motor when you press on the treadle you will see a bar that pushes onto the clutch, there should be an adjusting screw that you can slacken off so the clutch does not grab.
