how do i fix the stale smell coming from my hotpoint wt761?

after a wash the clothes come out smelling stale. Can I access the filter to clean it or is there another remedy.

look for the filter, at the bottom front of the machine , under a snap on pannel " thats were it should be , , you should see its cap " turn anti clock/ make sure the drum is empty " and turnen off ,,,,,,,
