What can I do about malfunction indicator on Nissan Micra?

I have a 2003 1.0 litre Micra, only just over 6k miles on clock, bought her new. Went on a trip (60m there and 60m back), checked oil, water, tyres etc before setting out - no problems. At start of return journey, malfunction indicator light (orange) came up. Checked book and it says something about oil/engine pressure and to take car to dealer. However, looking on line, I can see that this is a common problem and particularly with 03 models. What should I do?

Thanks, John. We have an oil can light (red) but this didn't come up. The orange light (which is steady not blinking) shows something we don't recognise. It seems to have a tap on the top of it. We did look at the exhaust but it seemed to be ok.

The MIL lamp indicates a problem with the fuel, exhaust or ignition systems on the car ..... if its running well, then it will probably be an exhaust issue. This lamp, by the way, has a picture of an engine on it, and its orange. The oil lamp has a picture of an oil can on it. Which one do you see?
