i have a 1999 vw polo 1lt petrol and when i rev it trys to cutout?

When i am driving along and change gear or slow down my engine trys to cut out when i rev it splutters then pulls away again ok. When i bought the car 8 weeks ago it had a full service and cam belt. Can you help i cant afford to take it to the again garage.
