i have just brought an astra o1 reg with a phillips cd radio which is working fine but i need to remove the battery but dont have the code for radio can anyone help ????

Ah! - your link shows a better price - mine cost just a couple of £ but using an existing 12V PSU, twin core wire and a plug for the lighter socket...

I got one from Halfords a while back, I think they still stock them.
Handy sometimes but on some cars the ignition has to be left on or the lighter socket is isolated.
For not much more money he could get all the security codes, but if it's an aftermarket radio it might indeed be the better option.

You used to be able to buy a gadget called a memory keeper - to keep power to the radio while the battery was disconnected - I tried to buy one but couldn't find a supplier - I arranged for 12V to be squirted up and into the cigar lighter socket turned the radio on (ignition) as a check and then replaced the battery - Golf MkIV - worked a treat.

If it's the original radio just go to a Vauxhall dealer and get a copy of the "car pass" card. This has your radio, immobiliser and key codes on it. Costs around £20 (or at least it did when I got mine).
