Husqvarna 142 chain brake release?

I took the cover off to clean and change chains , the brake must have been engaged, now I can't fit brake back over sprocket, hence the cover will not go back on. How can I release the brake?

There are two ways to do this, either remove the clutch and drum from the saw refit the brake onto the saw( which will now go back on the saw) and pull the hand guard toward you as normal to realease the brake, however more force will now be needed because the brake has gone over centre as there iwas no drum in it. The other way is to hold it down on a bench ( as if on the saw) with the palm of your right hand push down on the bottom rear of the hand guard, at the same time pull the hand guard back with the other hand, it should then load, if the worsed comes to it you can hold it in a vice, however take care not to damage the cover. There will be a fair amount of force required to pull the hand guard back but this is normal, i have never broken a hand guard yet.
