Start at the basic, make sure you have the presser foot up when you thread the machine, top tension about 4 or 5, make sure the bobbin turns anti clockwise in the bobbin case as you look at the open part, you should be able to pull the thread through with slight resistence, if it is too tight slacken the screw on the bobbin case about a quarter of a turn at a time and test.
