It looks like the boiler is needing some TLC courtesty of a trusted gas man, if there's such a thing....
I suspect there is a fair bit of limescale and other deposits inside the boiler, and it just can't disperse its heat quickly enough due to this. I can't really recommend anything for you to try now, unfortunately but I don't think your system is dangerous. It does need a professional opinion though, and get them to write down what they think the problem is...there's just too much bullsh1t flying about in this trade.

Hi John

I have left the water pressure now.The ch and hw comes on.Then I hear a clicking sound and it looks as if the light is out and its trying to ignite. The light comes on signalling the pilot light is out and then it wont ignite for ages. This is an intermittent fault.

The boiler pressure is fine now, no need to touch it further. Make sure all radiators are turned fully on. I'm not sure what you mean that the boiler sounds like its trying to ignite because surely it has lit up now...
There may be pump issues if its making strange noises!

One of the hands will be movable by you - turning the gauge dial itself. The boiler gauge should read about 1.5 bar. Set the gauge to this, so you can see if the pressure varies.
