check engine light on rover 216 auto?

Hi, i have a 1994 rover 216 auto with 100,000 miles on clock. Car runs great but when on motorway and speed hits about 50 mph the check engine light comes on and the car drops out of top gear. it still runs fine and the when i check the ecu light in passenger footwell its flashing once all the time.
i suspect a sensor but which one?
any help would be great

Hi Russ, if it flashes one short flash then a gap then another single short flash, that is code 1 Lambda sensor, but if it is a single long flash then a gap and then another single long flash, that is code 10 inlet air temp sensor, in both cases it might not be the sensor at fault it could be the wiring to them. To erase the code, switch ignition off, remove fuse #4 from fusebox in engine bay for 20 seconds, then refit fuse.
