Problems starting diesel Citroen Berlingo?

Car starts eventually, but takes about 5 minutes of trying to get it started. Have recently moved to Wales and is very damp here. Is this likely to affect starting car and any ideas on what I can do?

im having the same problem and it is usually a process of elimination start with heater plugs then fit a non return at diesil filter.next get injectors checked.sto solenoid also needs checked on pump.lastly u will need your valve clearance checked.only other thing to eliminate is that u havent a vacuum in your tank which is drawing fuel back.lastly check u dont have air in the fuel system.im half way through my fault finding.ill let u know how i get on.happy hunting.

If you have checked everything e.g. battery, starter motor, glow plugs, wiring, if all of these are o.k. then check tappet clearance on camshaft if these are tight you wont have good compression for cold starting.

My husband had the same problem with our 02 Berlingo and it went back to citroen 3 times who couldn't find the fault as they had it in their heated dry workshop. we eventually changed all of the glow plugs which was about a half hour job and haven't had the problem since. in fact we didn't strip out all components as I could get my smaller hands in the gap. They were also easy to remove and replace with a socket and only needed maximum of 1 and half to 2 turns. hope this helps.

you need to check that there is a 12v feed to heater plugs when ignition first turned on,[feed will switch off after a short time- this depends upon temperature ]if this ok,then your heater plugs will be at fault.if connecting wire to heaterplugs is removed then by using a continuity tester on each plug you should find the faulty one/s.
