vauxhall astra merit battery lead getting hot?

hi all
we have a vauxhall astra merit 1.4 p reg,we got no lights on the dashboard the red live lead from the battery is getting red hot,ive changed the starter motor,and ignition switch,and had the alternator checked(which was fine)now i dont know which direction to go in next is there anyone who could recommend anything i try please

COULD THIS MEAN I HAVE WIRED THE STARTER MOTOR UP WRONG ?OR THE ALTERNATOR AS I HAVE RENEW THESE PARTS ALONG WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH ANSWERS PLEASE

Disconnect the battery immediately - if a wire is getting hot there's a serious fault - a fire in the engine compartment is the next stage.

The car has fuses to prevent too much current, heating wires and a resulting fire - the current in the hot wire has found a way back to the other side of the battery without going through a safety fuse.

Summon a motor electrician or wait arround and summon the fire brigade.
