Whats wrong with my Admiral Washer?

The washer runs rough but it will not spin after the wash cycle the motor seems to smell like it's burning. Then the washer just stops all together but smells burnt. What is wrong and how can I fix it?
Please Help, God Bless, Cynthia

Mine did the same thing, turned out to be the start winding on the motor (replacement motor £240). The rough running might just be the bearing being worn. You can check that by tilting the washer back (use a friend) and look underneath at the belt. Remove the belt. Rotate the pulley by hand one way and it will just operate the agitator. Rotate in the other direction and the whole drum should rotate as in Spin mode ( this usually sounds a bit rough to me)
