i had an old suzuki fz 50 once and changed the engine and modified the frame to take a a suzuki a100m engine all i did was fill in the v5 to say the cc had gone up to 98 cc from 49 i sent it off and it came back with 98cc on the reg doc(in 1992) it was that easy but the insurance company will still class it as a the orignal bike it was registered as so be careful,ps i have a got an italjet dragster with a malossi 172cc kit on it and about another £700's worth of engine mods on it and it does 112mph and will lift the front wheel at 55mph easily ps i have got n.o.s to go on it now too lol.

I've seen 125cc Gileras with big bore kits advertised as 180's on Ebay. These scoots are not legal as the engine up-grades have mainly been done by the owner or some back lane mechanic they've paid & I'm sure they're not registered as 180's.
If a Bobby pulls you over doing 90mph on your ped & you try to tell him it's only a 125cc, I think you may get an interview in the custody suite of your local nick!!!!

Why do you want to register your 180 as a smaller bike, I can only assume you're not old enough to drive a 180cc?

I don't know what the legal procedure is for doing this but I'd imagine the only way around it is to get a bike shop to fit the smaller engine to your bike, you will need the registration papers from the bike which the replacement engine came out of, the papers from your own bike & an engineer's report from the bike shop to say the bike is now a 50 or 125cc. You might have to get the cops to stamp a form for you as well.
All the documentation is posted to your local motor tax office which they will send out new papers stating the change of engine to your bike. Hardly worth the hassle, is it?
If you just change all the bits off your bike onto a 50 or 125 frame & don't tell your insurers than you're funked if you have a crash. The cops will do you as well.
