How can i fix my gilera vx 125?

i have bought a new battery for my vx 125. when i go to connect the wires to the battery it automatically trys to start the bike without the ignition on. what could this be and how much will it cost to be fixed?

yes very common problem i had two et4's do that once the relay is under the rear left hand panel on a runner and is square grey or yellow with two big spade terminals on it and two small ones,so buy a new starter relay they are about £15,john and steo are right too its def that as the live feed goes from the battery straight to the starter relay and then straight to the starter motor the two smaller spades are an eart and a triggered live from the start button so the points inside the relay have stuck together it can be fixed but it may happen again you can pry it open and cleand the points in there once you have got them apart but its unlikely to be fixed for a long time it will more than likeley go wrong again soon after.adam

I agree with John, I'd say your starter relay is banjoed. If the contacts inside it are fused together then the starter is getting direct power from the battery making it spin over as soon as you connect up the battery.
The relay is a little black box with four spade connections which is probably situated beside the battery. It's a cheap fix so change that & you should be okay.

Price up a starter solenoid...the relay part on it has stuck closed.
