If speed signal is coming from ABS then cheque white loom of wire in bonnet , electric wires in battery compartment. see if any wire is broken ( brown color for speedo normally~)

theres is something you can look at your self if this vehicle is a petrol you need to stand as if you are looking at the engine from the front,look at the back left of the engine,and at the back of the engine theres is a earth you need to see if the two earths are ok by giving them a little tug if not repair,or if its got abs you might wont to check the fusebox down the side of the battery there is a plastic cover you need to remove it to see if the wires and connections are ok see how you go.

Your speedometer is most likely eleletric and would be mhelpful to hook scanner up to the car and see if the computer is seeing a speed .....if so its a prolem in the dash ....if the snanner isn`r seeing a reading its the vss in trans ..
