the motor will not shut off my Kenmore garburator - model 175.0913?

How do I shut off the motor - the drain stopper will not engage to stop the motor. I have turned off the power at my electrical panel, but I cannot use the garburator. Help please!

Is the replacement the only answer?
This would require:
1. the removal of the unit
2. removal of the trim shell assembly P/N 3185K
3. replacement of switch Kit P/N 71716
then my question is: are seals needed to reassemble the unit?
