how can I fix my van which the engine keeps cutting out?

How can I fix my van which the engine cuts out odd times when the ignition is turned on and off again its O.K it also tends to rev high when at traffic lights?
The model is a Ford Transit 90 TS350 2.5 Diesil 2003 reg
