got same problem on my y reg took door panel off and eased out window motor and all the slide and cables the cables wear and fray and get jammed in the turning mechanism trying to get second hand replacement no luck yet

There's lifting gear - it breaks - you need to get the inner door panel off to access it - I had a mobile car lock specialist fix my Golf window - £50 parts & £50 labour.
