I had already thought about what Adam said about the front of the variator coming loose but as you said, you took the engine casing off & didn't notice anything amiss so I assume without being able to see the bike that the variator side of he engine was okay & maybe something else making the screeching noise.

I hope I'm wrong as an engine seizure is an expensive fix. Can you post a reply & let us know what the problem was?

mmmm screaming noise............sounds like the variator outer half may have come a bit loose they make a noise like a slipping fan belt on a car as its very similar, the engine case on the left havnd side as you sit on the bike has the belt inside it along with the rest of the transmission.take off the cover (leaving the kickstart bolted on )and have a look at the nut on the end of the crankshaft.see if its loose.domit up tight if it is and loctite it on use an air gun on it ,ok

Sounds like your bike has seized, did you check that it's getting two stroke? Another thing to check is the two stroke pump belt.
If I can remember rightly, there's a casing on the right hand side of the engine, remove that & it reveals the two stroke pump. You will see a small rubber belt that drives it, check if this has snapped. If it has then you're looking at the price of an engine rebuild.
