LED's last awful long time, so dont be too fixed on thinking its definitely the LED.
These things are ridiculously simple to change!! I would advise getting one from a Friendly VW dealer (around £40), try it in to see if it works, if the new unit doesnt work you sir have a problem with the control unit (aka relay unit) in the door or the wiring. (note I said friendly dealer, you can take it back and say you got the wrong part by mistake and you may get your money back)
