what causes the excess of oil in the inlet of my ford 2.5 transit?

noticed loads of oil/ oily muck in the inlet manifold of my ford transit 1998 diesel/non turbo.
any idea what causes this

The is caused by the exhaust gas recirculation valve, not really anything to worry about.
