My Renault Clio wont start, central locking not working either?

I drove my V reg renault clio grande 1.2 about 10miles today, when I stopped and turned off the engine I noticed the red light that normally flashes when engine is turned off was a solid light. Also the "electrical" warning light started flashing. I tried starting the engine again-it turned over but wouldnt start, also the central locking stopped working, I changed battery in the key...still nothing. I called out breakdown people, he quite nastily said it was the immobiliser and would definitely cost me £500. But I thought if it was the immobiliser then the engine wouldnt even turn over?!
Could it just be an electrical fault?
Please help...I really can't bear forking out £500 this close to xmas! Thanks x

Hi fred, what is the temporary way to solve the immobiliser out please? my car is not starting and i have been told its a faulty immobiliser. Cheers. Dan.

Disconnect the neutral point of the battery for
About a minute and re connect, that should reset the flashing
Back to normal, get in the car and close the doors then using the lock button above the ashtray lock the door
And keep the button held down until the door locks pop back up, now with key in hand press the fob to lock the door, this
Should sort the central locking out, when you put the key in the ignition and turn if it doesn't stop the flashing light and won't start then turn off... And with key in the ignition press and hold the fob switch as if you was locking the doors but keep it pressed in and turn the ignition, this should switch off the immobiliser letting you start the car, hope this helps

Renault Clio won't start immobiliser stays on

Fred, if your still around how do you bypass the immobiliser without spending any money? we have been reading some literature about this but it isn't easy to understand. Tried looking on the Remote key ltd site but they don't cover my sons car his aerial is at the back?

If the reset does not work, go to this site and download the "immobiliser test kit". Follow the instructions to get your 4 digit bypass code.
Check your car handbook for the code entry method, as it may be different depending on model.
You will have to re-enter the code if the engine is off for more than 10 minutes, but it is better than paying for a new immo at this time of year.

Hi, ive had the same problem ive tried what you said but my car still won't start any more sugestions?

You may need to re-set the key.

In the car, doors closed, ignition off, key in hand.
Press the central locking button (the one on the dash or near the handbrake, not the one on the key).
Doors should lock then unlock, immo light should stay on.
Within ten seconds, press the button on the key twice. The doors should lock then unlock.
Now try starting the car.
If this does not work, post again, there is a way of temporarily by-passing the immobiliser. It will save you spending money right now.
