Why brakes go to the floor?

I'm trying to figure out why brakes that were working just fine all of a sudden stop working and start going to the floor board.

Checked the pads and they are fine. '82 Ford Escort.

Sounds like the master cylinder is bypassing and will need to be replaced but check for leaks at the inside of each tire for leaking wheel cylinder .......usually a master cylinder will not fail all at once but get worse with time but a wheel cylinder or brake line leak will do it fast ................

It,s the master cylinder, dont try and repair it.It,s cheaper to get a new one, make sure and bleed all the brakes after fitting it though.
