vaxhuall omega 2.0 twin cam gear box problem?

when moving off for the first time and the engin is cold and in .d. my car pulls away ok but stays in first for along time the speed increas to aprx 15 .20 .by wich time the engine and thereves are up I thort it was lack of oil having had autos be for Having read the manul and spocken to vaxhull dealer 2.0lt Dont have an auto dip stick thay have an plat on the back of the sump on the gear box When i spock to my lockal garege thay tell me omega auto gearboxs are elecktronk and I will need a new gear box . can you help

Hi, Late 1st to 2nd when cold is due to the computer commanding a late shift. For economy and emissions the cat is bought up to temperature quicker by the late shift. To prove this, try letting the car idle for a couple of minutes before moving off and if it changes gear normally the gearbox is OK.
