Riello RDB1 burner problem?

Please can someone help...I'm freezing!

I have a Riello RDB1 burner.
I recently had a refill of oil but before that the oil had run out and some air got sucket in.
After the refill, I bled the burner, and it seemed to work fine. But I noticed that everytime it needed to fire up (every few minutes) it just wouldn't do it, the house would get cold and I needed to press the red reset button each time to fire it up again.
This went on for a day and a half but now it refuses to fire up at all - when I press the red reset button it tries to fire up but just stops again.
What can I do?
Does it sound like I need a new pump?
Is there any 'homemade' remedy??

Thanks

Hello Sanda,
i have a similar issue where reset light comes on during startup. The problem is not related to the ignition circuit, the photocell etc.it is simply that the motor/pump/fan unit has failed to rotate. I have been informed that this can be a partially seized oil pump unit -usually associated with running out of kero/oil as this lubes the pump. You're looking at a replacement burner.

Thanks John & Sean.

I'll try that!

The photocell is indeed a possibility of burner failure...part number 3008646.

Dear Sandra, You must find the magic eye which should b at the end of possibly a black lead and it is possibly held in by a rubber casing , so gently lever it from side to side whilst maintaining a pulling pressure on it. If u succeed then clean the end of it and you should c the small 3 mm glass eye at the end of it. MAKE SURE THE BURNER IS SWITCHED OFF BEFORE U BEGIN THE WORK. Try this ,reassemble and good luck. Its dead easy to replace, and they cost around £20....try heating-parts .co.uk or a local parts center. You will however have to connect the wire ends into the control box (the box with the lockout light on) and there are 3 connections. It depends on how far you want to go with this, I guess.

Is that easy to buy/replace?

Assuming that all of your oil valves are turned on....
replace the coil that has 3 wires on top of the oil pump. This is called a solenoid coil and is notorious for failure on these. Thats all I can suggest from here!
