Sym City Hopper will not start...please help?

My scooter was running but just cut out and will not start now. I have checked carb and cleaned it, spark plug looks ok, petrol filter changed, petrol looks to be going through ok, battery is now dead from trying to start it, any ideas welcome

Its got a new spark plug on! Managed to get it running but it backfired after around 100yards, cut out and now when it starts it just cuts out after a few seconds.
