where is the oxygen cylinder on a ford fusion?

where is the oxygen cylinder on a ford fusion and is it an easy DIY replacement. I've just been quoted £345 and I've seen online that the oxygen cylinder can be bought for £49? Can anyone help?

Cheers Scott

You might suffer with erratic idling problems, your emmisions will possibly be beyond legal limits, excessive fuel consumtion and you risk damaging the catalytic converter

Many thanks guys! Your right it is the Oxygen Sensor (aka Lambda Sensor). Will the car function OK without it working?

Cheers Scott

Hi, there will be two oxygen sensors on your car, one on the exhaust manifold or on the pipe connected to it and the other will be after the catalytic converter, the main problem is due to the heat the exhaust operates at the sensors tend to become seized into the fittings and require the use of an oxy-acetlyn welding torch to heat the old sensor up to a cherry red heat to break the seized threads, the other thing you will need is a correct sized lambda sensor socket this has a cut-out to allow the cable not to get in the way, when fitting the new sensors ensure that the threads have plenty of copperslip grease on the thread to reduce the possibility of them seizing in the future, you might find that a fast fit exhaust place the cheaper place to go too

Aircraft and hospitals have oxygen cylinders - you probably mean Oxygen Sensor (aka Lambda Sensor) fitted in the exhaust system to provide information on unburnt oxygen in the exhaust gas to regulate fuel supply - connects to the engine management computer.

I know nothing much about cars - it's always possible that they now have oxygen cylinders but I can't imagine why.

Good luck...
