Ford KA water pump leak?

I thought i had a leak coming from the gasket on the water pump as the water was dripping onto the belt below causing it to make a noise. After removing the pump i have now found that the water is coming from the small hole in the bottom of the pump. What causes this and how do i stop it happening. As the water is making the belt slip.

if the hole is on the pump housing this usually lines up with the internal vane spindle shaft on the rear of the vane is a seal or 0 ring when this FAILS due to wear, water LEAKS past then EXTERNALLY via the drain hole.
