Maplins sell "self amalgamating rubber tape" as the name suggests it amalgamates onto the host and itself, so forming a watertight cover, ideal for this problem and sealing slight leaks from waste pipes etc

Find some plastic tube - split it along an 8" length. Open up and snap over the main cable. Run silicone around ends and along split - secure with cable ties. Perhaps...
