In addition, the tensioner pulley bolt head must be turned clockwise to loosen the belt and released to tension the belt. The bolt does not loosen or tighten itself, it is set on an offset cam only to aid in slackening or tensioning the belt, i.e. it does not unscrew/tighten on a thread.

That's right, remove the valance and possibly the right hand headlight to allow more room to slacken the tensioner pulley. Remove the three M8 bolts (13mm spanner/Socket) AND then the power sterring pump pressure sensor. Hold bottle under to catch fluid/hold finger over hole, extract alternator and replace sender switch. The voltage regulator is a common failure and pirate parts are made at a fraction of the Renault price. Just done this job a week ago.
