06 transit connect bad on fuel?

my connect t200 tddi is only getting 350-380 miles
from a full tank of fuel but a friend with the same van is getting 550 -600 miles from a full tank.
any idea why... can any one help

He is getting 57% better consumption than you are.
You are getting 36% worse consumption than him.

I know nothing about motor vehicles but that does not stop me guessing...

1) His tank is much bigger than yours
2) You drive like a lunatic and he drives gently
3) You make stop-start town journeys & he runs long distances
4) Your vehicle badly needs servicing - sticking brakes, slipping clutch, poorly inflated tyres, dirty filter etc.

I would have thought that the engine management computers that vehicles have these days are programmed to deliver a very precise ammount of fuel to the engine. So for a given engine load two similar vehicles would have a very similar consumption - therefore, if the tanks are the same size you must be placing more load on your engine than he is - else you have a small fuel leak or he is fibbing.
