seems the feedback resister that determines the gain of an amplifier has gone low,ie creating to much gain it is basically being nearly,if not overdriven,a factor of 30 times is good for a nice sound,usually twin channel amps have another circuit with an output chip which have low to no feedback resister between the input and output pins on the chip,as i havent looked at this type of amp i can,t say for sure i,ll try and find a drawing for the board to find out.,it may have mosfet,or darlingtons,or fets,etc being seventies amp,i prefer mosfet,darlingtons,anyway,seventies stuff is good.
