The brake lights on my Renault Megane Classic 97 stay on permanently?

My Renault Megane Classic has an intermittent problem. Having been MOT'd 3 days ago and passed - without anything changing (bulbs, fuses anything else on the car) suddenly all the brake lights stay on permanently, no other lights are on and the brakes work fine. I have to disconnect the battery when I park so that the battery doesn't run down and everyone doesn't keep telling me my lights are on! Any help gratefully appreciated.

check there is a 2-3 mm gap between the end of the main body of the switch and the lug on the brake pedal.Adjustment is normally made by disconnecting wiring plug from switch and unscrewing switch until correct gap is present. Also by disconnecting wiring plug brake lights should go out confirming this is where the fault lies
