ford focus boot opens on its own?

I have a ford focus 1.8 tdci 2005/55,the boot opens every time I apply the foot brake. This happens even if the vehicle is stationary. If I lock the doors when I am in the car this stops the boot opening.

Any one know a solution?

Hello,

I did what suggested by Kieron and it worked for me. Thanks Kieron.

I find also water leak in the boot which affects the plug (the connector). Now I need to find the source of the water leak.

Thanks Kieron, you're a genius.
My 2006 1.8TDi Mk2 Focus - boot opening when using the brakes and boot also stopped locking/unlocking with central locking.
Fix was as you described.

Kieron....You sir, are a star!
Exactly the the right place to fix this.
I think the water is coming in via the rear passenger light unit wiring...but will need to investigate further (in daylight and when its not -1 outside)

Thank you again.

Excellent solution - worked a treat first time!
A bugger getting carpet back but excellent!!
At one stage told it could be 'comfort' brain???
Thank god it wasn't!!!!

Thanks so much, saved me a fortune!!

this is how i fixed it.

open boot
pull back carpet trim on left hand side of boot wall
locate big black plug with approx 10 wires leading to it
undo plug by pressing little release button
spray well with wd40
put plug back together, making sure it "clicks" into position
should now be fixed

on mine this did the job. i took it apart 3 or 4 times and no joy. on the last try i noticed the "click" and jobs a good un. i suppose its just the plug not sitting properly together and loosening with driving.

good luck
