what would be the problem with a 2001 1.4 clio that started making a rattling noise from left hs of eng seemed to be down low and then car quit working..refused to start and making a high pitched squealing? also brown rusty water over bottle?

You say the left hand side of the car!I think you,re talking about the LEFT hand side as you are standing in front of it looking to your left,which is the OFF-Side of the car,seems like the water pump is naff.Don't go into a garage and say you have a noise from the left hand side they will see you as a duck egg and maybe take advantage of you,WATER PUMP.
