help with my advent 4211-c, re-boot?

my advent notebook keeps coming up with a black page with white writing and wont go any further then that, an error accured while attempting to read the boot configuration data.... can any one help?

Do you have a recovery disc at all ?..if so you could boot from the recovery disc and reinstall the operating system without losing your files.
