How can i make my lights brighter on my Gilera Dna 50?

I have my Gilera Dna 50, and would love to go out and see friends of an evening, but living in the countryside the roads are so dark, and my lights are so dim that I can only ride during the day. Does anyone know how I could get the lights to be brighter? Ta

I put a 50W HID Xenon head lamp on my bike. Wow what a difference it made. Lights up the roar a good 10 meters ahead

Change the rear stop and tail light to an led type aswel if your uping the wattage on the front.

Anya i checked one of my dna's today and they do have 2 35/35watt halogen h4 bulbs in them so its definatley worth looking at yours, like i said to see if they are 35/35 or 60/55 watt bulbs in there.if they are the 60/55 then they will be dull.

Alas I wish I was too young... but I am not!! Grew up with madness bad manners etc. Ace. Sounds brilliant. I have to go and see my daughters bands now... LOL

Thanks BB had a good Xmas, hope you had too? Went to see Madness in the 02 in Dublin last monday, great laugh. I'd nearly forgotten what it was like to be a Nutty Boy way back in the 80's but I hope you're too young to remember...lol...

The standard bulbs are halogen on the dna so you will not be able to upgrade to that but its right what peccavi says the higher the wattage the duller the headlight unless its supplying enough amps to run a bigger bulb and the dna doesn't as the lighting circuit is run directly from the stator assemblys lighting coil.but as far as i remember the dna is supposed to have 2 35/35 halogen H4 bulbs and the most common bulb in a H4 is 60/55 watt so its worth checking the bulbs wattages if they are dull.you will need to remove the front fairing from around the headlight to get access to it though it has about 8 screws around the edge of it.

Hey steo,
hope you had a good festive period. Not a problem. All in here to help out and learn

The standard bulb in your bike is rubbish but you can replace it with a higher wattage halogen bulb. As the scooter's lights only come on when the engine is running, it shouldn't effect the battery.
I replaced the bulbs on my Neos 50 & twin headlight Majesty 125 with no problems. Don't expect car headlight illumination from your bike as the lighting coil does not throw out the same power as a car.
Sorry guys for for jumping on your threads.

Hi Peccavi
that is a great answer and you sounds as though you know loads about electrics. I learnt something

bb, January 2010
A lamps Wattage usually determines the brightnes - just like at home - motorbike electrics are pretty puny - years ago (many many years ago) I put a higher wattage headlight bulb in my old bike - in the hope of having better vision in the dark and for a few miles it was great but the higher wattage lamp drew more current than the alternator could supply and slowly slowly on my first night journey the light became dimmer as the battery voltage decayed. To restore volts to the battery I had to run along in the moonlight just using my parking light - very scary.

The message is - use the correct Voltage bulb else the lamp will be very very dim but above all use the correct wattage - too many watts may quickly drain the battery.

bb below knows much more than I do

shoud be able to ride in evening sounds as though you have a few problems.
Check battery and bulbs are right voltage
you can get brighter bulbs. Standard ones are tungstun you could invest in Halogen ones, much brighter. Make sure they are the right voltage, check with the a dealer
However check all the lighting connections make sure they are clean and free from water dirt.
One question. When your bike is ticking over and you rev the engine do your lights get brighter. They should get notably brighter, if not it suggests you may have a problem with your bike charging your battery as you go.
