How does the wiper motor know when to stop so that your wipers park at the correct angle? Answer: the motor has limit switches built into it. If those limit switches fail, then the wipers will come to rest in whatever position they are in when you turn of the wipers at the stalk.
To check, see if you get 12 V (or 24V if its a 24 V system although I doubt it on a DAF 45) at the wiper motor multiplug, while the wiper stalk is in the OFF position but the ignition switch is in the ON position. (Use a multimeter). If you get 12 V then the limit switches are unserviceable and you'll have to replace the wiper motor. If you don't get voltage, then there may be a break in the wiring and you'll have to trace it back to the fusebox (not easy).
