You say you get the error when plugging in the register. How long was the register unplugged? If it was unplugged for more than 30 days, the internal battery may have gone dead and the memory / program has been lost. If this is the case, you will need to MAC (Memory All Clear) the machine and reprogram it. If it was only unplugged for a short time, you might try an Initial Clear to get rid of the error.
1) Power off the register.
2) Turn the key to the P position.
3) Hold down the SBTL key.
4) While holding down the SBTL key, power on the register.
If you do it correctly, an Initial Clear message will print on the printer.
