Why is the heater in my Renault Scenic only working on setting 3? ?

I have a Renault Scenic 1.4 diesel, 04 plate and this weekend the heater/blower only started working when the dial was on setting number 3? On the other settings it sounds as if nothing is coming out the vents. Any ideas?

I have a renault scenic 1.6 54 reg and my heating will only work on setting 1 and 2 and will not work on 3 and 4, so if you find a solution to this I would be very greatful.

It the resistor pack that causes this. Some of the wiring on the connector is not thick enough and they start to melt and fuse. Renault want £400+ to change this as they say the dash has to come out?
