Heating gone cold (always)?

I got a L plate Rover 620i back in April, at that time, the heating in the car worked ok, took a while to get warm, but worked eventually. Now, coming back into winter, the blower only blows out cold air, permenantly. Everything appears to work, u can hear a noise when changing the temperature dial, I know very little about cars, but it's in such a state it's not worth getting done professionally. Any help would be much appreciated.

check your thermostat,may need replacing.

MR JUNGLE, November 2005
take off both heater pipes and if you can get your hands on a water filled fire extinusher push one of the pipes from the heater on to the ens of the fire extinusher and give it a blast make shour the heater is in the hot poshion first if water comes gushing out the other pipe its ok if not its blocked up
i did this to one of my old cars i had and it did the trick fine and boy was my heater hot after that,

Check the water levels in the radiator, I know it sounds basic, but hell, I missed it!
